Basque Health Cluster has taken part in BioSpain 2025 alongside a delegation of associated companies and entities — BIOEF, Miramoon Pharma, Golden Gait Biotech, TAD The Art of Discovery, Innoprot, HAWK Biosystems, Ubikare and Biocomputing — under the umbrella of the Basque Government and the SPRI Group, representing the strength of the Basque life sciences and health ecosystem.

During the three-day event, the Basque presence at the Euskadi Basque Country Innovation Land stand showcased the region’s strong culture of collaboration, its commitment to innovation and its growing international positioning in the sector.

The agenda kicked off on Monday, ahead of the official opening, with a networking dinner that brought together the Basque delegation for a first strategic connection before the fair began. It was an opportunity to generate synergies, align expectations and strengthen a unified country brand.

Over the first two days, the participating entities engaged in partnering meetings, strategic contacts and solution presentations, reinforcing Euskadi’s role as a European hub for health innovation.

On Wednesday 8, Basque Health Cluster hosted the roundtable “Biotech Made in Euskadi: Collaborative Science for Global Health”, moderated by General Manager Idoia Muñoz Lizan.

Representatives from companies and agents from the Basque ecosystem participated, including Iñaki Gutiérrez-Ibarluzea, Director of Health Research, Innovation and Evaluation at the Basque Government’s Department of Health; Ivan Macia, Director of Digital Health and Biomedical Technologies at Vicomtech; Aritz Leonardo Liceranzu, founder of BioComputing; Jascha Blobel, CEO of Golden Gait Biotech, Iñigo Angulo-Barturen, CEO of TAD – The Art of Discovery, and Iván Arriola Aldamiz, Head of the Health Sector at Tekniker.

The session highlighted the scientific and technological capacity of the Basque Country and how public-private collaboration is key to competing on a global scale.

The fair culminated in a historic moment: the Basque Country will host BioSpain 2026, which will be held from 29 September to 1 October at the BEC – Bilbao Exhibition Centre.

Jaione Ganzaráin, Deputy Minister for Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Basque Government, and Cristina Múgica, Director of Regional Competitiveness and Foreign Promotion of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, have received from Ion Arocena, Director General of Asebio, and Silvia Labé, Director of Marketing, Communication and Competitive Intelligence at Biocat, the baton for organising the next edition of Biospain.

The Deputy Minister highlighted:

‘It is a pleasure and an honour to hold this fair next year in the Basque Country. Our commitment to the biosciences is fully aligned with the European commitment to reindustrialisation and technological sovereignty in health.’

The event was also attended by Silvia Labé (Biocat), Ion Arocena (ASEBIO), Idoia Muñoz (Basque Health Cluster), Cristina Oyón (SPRI Group) and the Basque companies present.

An edition that anticipates the potential of the Basque Country in 2026

34 countries, 2,300 participants, 1,100 entities, 250 exhibitors and more than 8,600 meetings confirm the impact of BioSpain 2025.

The Basque Country’s participation was a demonstration of the commitment of the Basque Health Cluster and its member organisations to internationalisation, business generation and the building of strategic alliances.

What we have experienced over the last few days is just a preview of the potential that the Basque Country will show the world as host of BioSpain 2026, where an even broader representation of companies, research centres and agents from the Basque biohealth ecosystem is expected.

See you in Bilbao at BioSpain 2026!
