Last week, Basque Health Cluster took part in the international mission organised within the framework of SUBCON THAILAND 2026, together with companies and stakeholders from the Basque health ecosystem, with the aim of strengthening ties between the Basque Country and Thailand and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in areas such as medical devices, healthcare, advanced manufacturing and industrial innovation.
The mission began with a visit to Bumrungrad International Hospital and VitalLife Scientific Wellness Center, two leading institutions in Southeast Asia in the fields of healthcare, medical innovation and health tourism. The delegation had the opportunity to learn first-hand about their capabilities, care models and innovation strategies.
Basque Health Cluster would like to extend its special thanks to Polakit Teekakirikul and the entire Bumrungrad and VitalLife teams for their warm welcome and for sharing their vision and experience with the delegation.
During the second day, the delegation took part in industrial visits organised by AMATA, gaining insight into the country’s industrial and advanced manufacturing capabilities and exploring potential avenues for international collaboration.
In this context, the delegation also visited Essilor Optical Laboratory (Thailand), part of EssilorLuxottica, as well as the recently expanded plant of Triumph Motorcycles Limited Thailand. Basque Health Cluster would like to thank the management teams of both companies for their hospitality and for sharing their industrial processes, capabilities and vision.
Furthermore, as part of SUBCON THAILAND, strategic meetings were held with key organisations from Thailand’s healthcare and medical devices ecosystem, including FDA Thai, Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS), Thai Cosmetic Cluster, Thai Subcon Association, Medical Device Industry Cluster and The Federation of Thai Industries.
These meetings made it possible to identify opportunities for collaboration in areas such as innovation, regulatory affairs, manufacturing, supply chains, industrial partnerships and access to the Thai market.
Basque Health Cluster would also like to highlight the excellent coordination and organisation of the mission by Nuntanart Krisnachinda, Lalida Sornsong and Souchitra Abhay-Sassady, as well as the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), for making such a valuable and strategic agenda possible for the delegation.
Finally, we would like to thank Basque Trade & Investment / Agencia Vasca de Internacionalización, Pablo Huidobro Eguia, Windel Anne Lacson and the Singapore office team, as well as Azucena Castro, for their support and accompaniment throughout the mission.
Participation in this mission has helped strengthen the international presence of the Basque health ecosystem in Southeast Asia, establish new strategic connections and identify opportunities for collaboration and joint development.
